Plane of Nightmare Guide

Plane of Nightmare is the step after Crypt of Decay. This zone is built around Thelin Poxbourne, the hedge maze, Nightmare essence farming, the Black Bastardsword hand-in, Terris Thule, and the next Chapter 1 mirror upgrade.

Progression Overview

1. Kill valid trash to gather Nightmare essence.
2. At 1,000 essence, a hostile PoN Essence Chest spawns at the credited player and the essence count resets.
3. Speak with Thelin Poxbourne and enter the hedge maze when ready.
4. Inside the hedge path, collect the five cursed token drops and combine them in a Tier Upgrade Kit to make Black Bastardsword.
5. Hand Black Bastardsword to Thelin to summon a construct of nightmares.
6. Kill the construct, loot Dagger Blade Shard, and hand it to Thelin to receive Thelin's Dagger and advance the Terris story step.
7. Build Eclipsed Midnight Mirror of Nightmares before leaving this tier if you are following reflected rewards.

Nightmare Essence Count

Most normal trash in Plane of Nightmare counts toward the essence system. Bosses, pets, helpers, excluded event NPCs, and several special-script NPCs do not count.

• 1 valid trash kill = 1 Nightmare essence.
• The counter is stored per character.
• Credit can be found through the player, pet, bot, bot pet, group, or raid ownership where possible.
• Same-IP group or raid members can receive shared essence credit.
• At 1,000 / 1,000, the script spawns a hostile essence chest at the player and resets the counter.

The Hedge Maze

The maze starts from Thelin Poxbourne when you tell him you are ready. The script moves players to the hedge start while preserving the current instance.

Once the maze begins, it is intentionally nasty:

• A random Thelin curse is applied: Thelin's Disarm, Thelin's Voice, Thelin's Pace, or Thelin's Fortitude.
• After roughly two minutes, the hedge starts draining HP and mana from players and bots.
• Coven wolves begin spawning during the event.
• The maze can periodically move players back to the start.
• Thelin's silence and presence effects can hit players and bots.
• After the lava warning, players without Spirit of Eagle can take heavy lava ticks.

Treat the hedge as its own event, not just a hallway. Bring movement, recovery, and patience.

Hedge Token Combine: Black Bastardsword

Thelin explains that five cursed creatures are tied to five token pieces. Each token has a strong drop chance from its matching named.

Combine all five tokens in a Tier Upgrade Kit to create Black Bastardsword.

Hand Black Bastardsword to Thelin to summon a construct of nightmares.

Construct And Thelin Hand-Ins

A construct of nightmares is the Thelin-spawned boss after the Black Bastardsword hand-in.

After the construct dies, hand Dagger Blade Shard to Thelin. He returns Thelin's Dagger and triggers the Terris story step.

Lair of Terris Thule / PoNb Access

Thelin's Dagger is part of the Plane of Nightmare story flow, but it is not the final access instruction for Plane of Nightmare B. PoNb access comes from a twelve-piece Nightmare collection chain that ends with a right-click key.

First, collect the six outer Plane of Nightmare relics and combine them in a Tier Upgrade Kit to create Totem of the Dreamless:

Finally, combine Totem of the Dreamless and Totem of the Restless in a Tier Upgrade Kit to create Key of the Shadowed Lair.

Important: right-click Key of the Shadowed Lair to unlock access to the Lair of Terris Thule / Plane of Nightmare B. Once access is unlocked, you can enter the public version or request an instance.

Nightmare Mirror Upgrade

The Nightmare mirror recipe uses the Tier Upgrade Kit. The required pieces are:

These are combine-line augment pieces; keep them if you are building Nightmare augments.

Practical Reminders

• The hedge maze is the core mechanic of the zone and deserves preparation.
• Essence credit is for valid trash kills, not every NPC in the zone.
• The essence chest is a fight and a reward source.
• Keep Jewel of Nightmares and Crown of Nightmares if you are upgrading the mirror.
• Keep the five hedge tokens until you can combine Black Bastardsword.
• If a hand-in fails, confirm you are using the correct Thelin version and the exact item.
