Befallen

Level Range: 15-30

Befallen is an early custom progression zone with a built-in guide task, several one-time unlock NPCs, and a few important chest drops that carry forward into Unrest upgrades.

Main Task

Explore The Befallen Revamp is assigned automatically when you zone in at level 10 or higher. It is a guide task, not a progression lock, but it points you through the zone's named encounters and rewards XP, coin, and Holy Source of Power.

The task asks you to defeat the major custom named encounters:

One-Time Unlock NPCs

Several Befallen events work like this: get the trigger item once, hand it to the special NPC once, and from then on you can hail or use the NPC dialogue to spawn the event again. You do not need to keep farming the same trigger item after your character is flagged.

Wijdan

Wijdan is the special merchant/quest NPC who can spawn after killing the skeletal excavators near the entrance. He gives the Befallen relic collector quest and can also show the Befallen badge guide.

Wijdan asks for five relics. Each relic is an uncommon drop, around 40%, from its source:

Bring all five to Wijdan at once by using his dialogue. He removes the relics, rewards Collectors Earring, gives XP, and flags your character complete. This collector work only needs to be finished once.

Wijdan also mentions a hub teleport cloak rumor: hate-themed inhabitants in Befallen can spawn attackers that may lead to the Greater Faydark hub clicky cloak.

The Pretty Hate Machine	Aegis of Minor Divinity, Copper Lunar Ring, badge bit 1/10, and tier 1 gems. The Aegis is an evolving shield and its right click casts Minor Balance, a group health-balancing click with 200 range, 100 AE range, and a 6 minute recast.
Construct of Spite	A Flickering Crystal for a tiny insignificance.
The Glitch Princess	Badge bit 2/10, face item, Tidal Bow, and tier 1 gems. Tidal Bow is upgradable with tier 2 weapon gems from Unrest.
Insidious Cloak	an icy fragment for an empty chest and badge bit 3/10.
Monster	Hateful Huntsman's Ethereal Satchel of Stones or Quiver, badge bit 4/10.
Mash	Hateful Skull Charm, badge bit 5/10.
The Thaumaturgist	The Thaumaturgist's Robe, Head of The Thaumaturgist, Ice Crystal Staff, badge bit 6/10, and a chance at Thaumaturgist's Blackened Focus for Wijdan.
The Hand That Feeds	a right hand and a left hand for Paradigm of Hate, Bite of the Hand, Antonican Traveler's Bag, badge bit 7/10.
Partial Anger	Visage of the Stone Gargoyle and badge bit 8/10.
Hates Heat	Heated Hatred chest armor, Harbinger of the Eclipse zone pull clicky, Pokeball, jewels, badge bit 10/10.

Paradigm of Hate and Hates Heat

The Hand That Feeds drops the hands used by a paradigm of hate.

One hand, left or right, unlocks Partial Anger.
Both hands together unlock Hates Heat.
Once your character is flagged, you can use the Paradigm dialogue afterward instead of handing in more hands.
The calls share a 1 minute cooldown.

Hates Heat has health-based elemental waves. At 70%, 40%, and 15%, it becomes invulnerable and calls elemental masters. Kill the adds quickly or the event punishes the hate list with a large heat blast.

Tier 2 Upgrades

Do not vendor these chest and weapon drops:

These are treated as tier 2 chest pieces. Upgrade them in a Tier Upgrade Kit with a tier 2 armor upgrade gem. The +1, +2, and +3 upgrades each use another tier 2 armor upgrade gem.

Tidal Bow from The Glitch Princess is also a tier 2 upgrade item. It upgrades in a Tier Upgrade Kit with a tier 2 weapon upgrade gem, up to +3.

The tier 2 armor and weapon upgrade gems come from the next zone, Unrest, including trash and named there.

Befallen Badge

Wijdan can show the badge guide in game. Collect all ten Bit of a Badge pieces from Befallen named encounters and combine them in a Tier Upgrade Kit for Mastery of Befallen Badge.

Quick Route

Follow the auto-assigned task as a checklist. Kill A Champion of Xyron, Construct of Spite, and Insidious Cloak early so you can unlock the robot, tiny insignificance, and empty chest events. Farm The Hand That Feeds until you have both hands, unlock Paradigm of Hate once, then use the Paradigm to repeat Partial Anger or Hates Heat as needed.

Before moving on, keep any Thaumaturgist or Heated Hatred chest pieces for Unrest gem upgrades.
