The Deep Upside Down Guide

The Deep Upside Down is the version 1 expedition of The Deep. It is reached through A Syrupy Ego Waffle, which summons Eleven. Eleven can create the The Deep Upside Down dynamic zone, then move the group in when you say you are ready.

This is the pressure version of The Deep. The normal zone crawl is replaced by Sel`Rheza's opening test, moving blights, a rotating mini-boss controller, and the Thought Horror Overfiend finale.

Access

Click A Syrupy Ego Waffle out of combat to summon Eleven. Ask for The Deep Upside Down, then say ready after the expedition is created.

The expedition is version 1 of The Deep, lasts six hours, and supports up to twelve players.

Sel`Rheza and Moving Blights

Sel`Rheza, The Lunar Oracle appears only in The Deep Upside Down. Entering the version 1 expedition signals her script and starts the narrated test.

After the opening sequence, three creeping blight encounters become active. They are mobile threats, not static named:

  • They repeatedly hunt non-GM players around the zone.
  • One keeps reapplying its spell to the last client it engaged.
  • Killing each one signals Sel`Rheza's sequence forward.

Stay together during this opener. The blights can drag fights into awkward terrain if players split up or sit idle.

Zigzag Mini-Boss Route

The zone controller runs a rotating mini-boss route. Every few seconds it picks one remaining mini-boss and one of several spawn points. Once players engage that mini-boss, the rotation stops until it dies.

The mini-boss pool is:

  • Chasm Overseer
  • Thought Horror Corrupter
  • Xeximoz
  • Slavekeeper Xiox

When a mini-boss dies, it is removed from the pool and the controller begins rotating the next remaining mini-boss. When all four are cleared, Thought Horror Overfiend spawns as the final fight.

The mini-bosses can also split at half health. When that happens, they spawn Demodog adds and depop, so be ready for the fight to suddenly turn into add control.

Mini-Boss Drops

The mini-bosses share the important Overfiend construction pieces:

Version 1 enemies can also add Upside Down Lunar Moonlight. Their shared Luclin table includes items such as BDM Wand, Galactic Moon Dust, Glyph of Mana Draw, Soul Devouring Armament, Skill Shards, Lunar Sunset Gem, and several illusion or utility clickies.

Thought Horror Overfiend

Thought Horror Overfiend is the final fight of the upside-down route.

Key mechanics:

  • The fight requires at least two real player attackers shortly after combat starts. If that check fails, the Overfiend depops.
  • At high health it creates Demogorgon as a mirrored host. Keep the Overfiend and host close in health. If their health spread gets too wide, the balance fails and the event retreats.
  • At the next threshold the host is removed and the Overfiend continues.
  • During the vessel phase, the Overfiend becomes protected, roots nearby players, and spawns Demogorgon as the vessel. The group has only a short engage window.
  • If the vessel is not engaged in time, the room is punished.
  • Killing the vessel unlocks the Overfiend again, but spell damage remains blocked until the next phase.
  • Later phases add creeping blight adds.
  • The final chase/burn has a timer. If the group takes too long, the Overfiend retreats and the event must be restarted.
  • If combat drops for too long during the fight, the Overfiend vanishes unchallenged.

Overfiend Drops

Thought Horror Overfiend adds Upside Down Lunar Moonlight directly to its loot, with a chance at an extra copy.

Its reward table includes upside-down moon gear and chase items such as:

Practical Route

Use the waffle to create the version 1 expedition, stay together for Sel`Rheza's moving blights, handle one zigzag mini-boss at a time, and save cooldowns for Overfiend's balance, vessel, and final burn phases.
