The Deep Guide

The Deep is the normal version of the zone after Echo Caverns. Keep this page separate from The Deep Upside Down: the regular zone is about clearing the Luclin-tuned trash and named, collecting the early Stranger Things relic drops, using the kitchen-stove waffle recipe, and finishing the Burrower event for level 61 and Maiden's Eye access.

Access

Enter from Echo Caverns. The Envoy of Sel Rheza frames the zone around pressure, hidden paths, and the parasite beneath the stone. Mechanically, the open-world version uses the parent Deep scripts and spawns the Burrower Beast controller, not the version 1 Upside Down controller.

Parent Script Mechanics

The parent script retunes most of the zone. Regular enemies are level 61 style threats with high health, fast attacks, tracking, see invis, and occasional bonus boot/chase drops. Named enemies are much stronger and use the Luclin boss package.

Named enemies have two important script checks:

  • At half health they call nearby cave minions onto their top hate target unless Mark of Silence is active.
  • While engaged they pulse a short-range life drain around themselves.

The practical answer is still the same as later Luclin: pull named away from trash, keep Tome of Silence available, and do not loosely stack bots around a named unless you are ready for the drain pulse.

Most normal enemies also have a chance to leave behind an umbral beast when they die.

Regular Named And Mini Drops

The regular Deep named/minis include Chasm Overseer, Thought Horror Corrupter, Xeximoz, Slavekeeper Xiox, Lhurgoz the Decayed, Koxiux the Imperceptible, Deranged Underbulk, Oldencamp the Lost, and Demodogs.

These named share the main Deep loot pool. Important shared drops include:

The four keepsakes, Spiked Bat, A Yellow Shirt, D and D Figurine, and Home CB Radio, are version 1 keepsake pieces. Save them for the Upside Down guide. The regular zone can drop the pieces, but the hand-in and Thought Horror Overfiend pressure fight are not part of the open-world walkthrough.

Upside Down Lunar Moonlight is also part of the reflected Luclin upgrade thread. Four copies combine in a Tier Upgrade Kit to make Upside Down Lunar Moonlight Rk2.

Stove And Waffle Recipe

The Simple Brick Kitchen Stove near the invisible bridge is a recipe hint, not random decoration. The Deep introduces the food-side waffle upgrade thread.

The first recipe is baking:

A Syrupy Ego Waffle is the item that summons Eleven for The Deep Upside Down. Its click script refuses to work in combat, then spawns Eleven at the player's location.

Later waffle upgrades continue outside regular Deep:

Burrower Event

The Burrower Beast event is the main regular-version scripted encounter. In open world, the zone controller spawns the Burrower Beast event controller. Entering its area starts the event immediately:

  • Wave 1 starts right away with rock burrowers.
  • Wave 2 starts about 90 seconds later with spined rock burrowers.
  • Wave 3 starts about 180 seconds later with stone carvers.
  • Wave 4 starts about 270 seconds later and spawns a burrower parasite.

The support burrowers force tank aggro shortly after spawning. If one drops combat, it signals an immediate event reset, so keep the waves controlled and engaged.

The burrower parasite has a 30 minute fail-safe timer. While engaged, it casts Burrower Parasite Trance about every 60 seconds on players near it. Kill it cleanly before the fail-safe expires.

Burrower Rewards

The burrower parasite is the important regular Deep payoff. It drops Welcome to Level 61 at 100%. Clicking that item checks the player's group or raid, requires everyone involved to be level 60 and on the same IP, then raises eligible characters to level 61.

The parasite can also drop Key to Maiden's Eye. That key only works in The Deep; when clicked, it grants Maiden's Eye access to the clicker and same-IP group or raid members.

Other notable parasite drops include Ancient Burrower Hide Tunic, Bile Drenched Flesh Robe, Charm of the Shadows, Greatbow of Umbra, Masamune, the Skycutter, Moon Wave Spash, Nodule of the Void, Voidless Thunder, Voidless Aggro, Harbinger of Velious, and Urn of Moon Space.

Traps And Other Mechanics

Ancient thought horror traps spawn an ancient thought horror and then depop. The color-cycling script in the zone changes tint every few seconds, so do not treat every visual change as a separate event.

Practical Route

Clear trash and regular named for loot, waffle pieces, Lunar Moonlight, and the four Stranger Things keepsakes. Use the stove recipe to make A Syrupy Ego Waffle when you have Maple Syrup and An Ego Waffle. Then complete the Burrower event for Welcome to Level 61 and the Key to Maiden's Eye.

Do the Upside Down version separately through A Syrupy Ego Waffle when you are ready for the version 1 pressure route.
