Kurns Tower
Kurns Tower is the first Kunark dungeon step after Field of Bone. The tower is progression-focused, with amplified skeleton pressure, a named relic collection, and the path toward Kaesora.
EXP Note: Kurns Tower does give EXP now. The exception is the amplified skeleton problem: the extra amplified skeletons created by the Temporal Amplifier are set to give no EXP.
Before You Enter
You need access from Field of Bone. Emperor Ganak's task rewards Key to Kurn's Tower, and clicking that key grants the Kurn flag.
When you zone in, a marquee warns that the tower is unstable. The warning is about the skeleton amplification mechanic: normal Kurn kills can give EXP, but amplified skeletons give no EXP. The safest path is to destroy the Temporal Amplifier before the dead start multiplying.
How The Zone Plays
Kurns Tower is a gather-and-clear progression zone. The usual flow is:
- Enter carefully and handle the skeleton pressure near the start.
- Find and kill a temporal amplifier early.
- Hunt the named relic mobs for Rilnik Rubblewhisker's collector quest.
- Kill General Kurn Machta for a lesser paradoxical scale.
- Take the scale to a dead snake to spawn Xiardoth the Lost.
- Kill Xiardoth for the Kaesora key and other progression loot.
Entrance Skeleton Trap
The start of Kurns is intentionally dangerous. There are multiple custom skeleton and scalebone spawns packed through the lower tower and entrance paths. Do not assume the entry area is a safe staging room.
If you rush in and start killing while the amplifier is up, the tower can snowball because many skeletons split into more skeletons on death.
Temporal Amplifier
a temporal amplifier is the main zone pressure mechanic.
While the amplifier is alive, many scripted Kurn skeletons check for it when they die. If it is still up, they spawn two extra greater_skeleton adds at their death location. Those extra amplified skeletons are the no-EXP mobs; the rest of Kurns Tower can still reward EXP normally.
Kill the amplifier early. When it dies, it shouts:
You have 20 minutes before amplification resumes, plan accordingly!
When the amplifier returns, it shouts:
Time's up! The Temporal Amplifier hums back to life, and skeleton amplification is back in action!
The practical read: kill the amplifier, then use that 20-minute window to gather, clear, and hunt named before the tower starts feeding itself again.
The amplifier and many amplified skeletons can drop:
- Scale Essence
- Minor Coin of Fate
- Gems such as Fire Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby, Diamond, Blue Diamond, and Warped Gem
Rilnik's Relic Collection
Near the entrance, find Rilnik Rubblewhisker. He tracks eight relics recovered from Kurn's named horrors. Hail him to open a popup ledger that checks which relics you are carrying and tells you which named still need to be hunted.
Each relic is a 50 percent drop from its listed source. When you have all eight relics, say I have the Kurn relics to Rilnik. He removes the relics and rewards Rilnik's Bound Relic Torque, a neck/ear item bound from Kurn's recovered relics.
| Named NPC | Relic Drop |
|---|---|
| Bargynn | Bargynn's Cracked Torture Seal |
| Crackling Bones | Crackling Bone Sigil |
| a skeletal cook | Blackened Kitchen Fetish |
| an odd mole | Buried Survey Fragment |
| Burynai Forager | Buried Survey Fragment |
| an undead jester | Jester's Chipped Mask |
| fingered skeleton | Fingerbone Rosary |
| thick boned skeleton | Heavy Ossuary Shard |
| undead crusader | Crusader's Rusted Oathplate |
General Kurn Machta
General Kurn Machta is the first major boss and is located deeper in the tower.
On engage, he shouts about the fallen empire and his experiments. He spawns a failed experiment at the start of combat, then continues spawning one every 25 seconds while engaged. He also casts Arctic Blast during the fight.
General Kurn also uses the server's pet-pressure logic, so tank pets should expect extra punishment during the encounter.
On death, he depops his minions and announces that the Iksar will rise again.
Notable drops:
- a lesser paradoxical scale - guaranteed; used on the dead snake to unlock Xiardoth.
- Experimental Earring of Souls
- Earring of Tortured Souls
- Epic Weapon Upgrade Token +2
Dead Snake And Xiardoth
Find a dead snake and hand it a lesser paradoxical scale. The first valid hand-in marks that character and starts a 10-second timer. The snake twitches, then spawns Xiardoth the Lost.
After the first hand-in, you can hail the dead snake to spawn Xiardoth again on a 1-minute cooldown.
Xiardoth shouts on spawn and throughout the encounter. She is written as a Shissar displaced back into Kurn's Tower after the Green Mist and confused that time has dragged her away from Luclin.
During combat, Xiardoth casts Minor Deathly Chants at the start of the fight and every 30 seconds after that. She also calls two minions every 25 seconds. If combat drops, the script stops the minion timer, depops the minions, and wipes hate.
Xiardoth also uses the server's pet-pressure logic.
Notable Xiardoth drops:
- Amulet of Necropotence
- Key to Kaesora
- Wrist of Temporal Flux
- Experimental Earring of Souls
- Earring of Tortured Souls
- A paradoxical dragon bone
Read the lore on A paradoxical dragon bone: it belongs at the dragon bones in the Field of Bone pit and is used to trigger Jaled`Dar there.
Key To Kaesora
Key to Kaesora is the main progression key from Xiardoth.
The key can be clicked to grant Kaesora access. The click script flags same-IP group or raid members and consumes the key afterward. It can also be turned in to The Guardian of Kaesora in Field of Bone for Kaesora access.
Other Scripted Content
a_skeletal_cook still supports the classic hand-in. Handing in Glowing Skull gives The Skull of Torture.
